Macy's Rwanda Path to Peace

I had heard about the Rwanda goods being sold at Macy's from our friends the Jacobs who are also in the process of adopting from Rwanda.  I've been dying to get over to Macy's to check it out so on Sunday right after church I headed to Northpark Mall only to find that they didn't carry any of the Rwanda products in their store.  But, today, I had an excuse to go to Macy's at the Dallas Galleria to buy some pillow fills for a client and I was very pleased to see the Rwanda basket section like I had hoped for!  I can't tell you how excited I was to shop around!
These are the two baskets I bought today at Macy's.
The inside tag reads: "Hand Made in Rwand by Betty Rughema, May 2007"
A "Certificate of Authenticity" was attached to each basket.
Click HERE to learn more about the Rwandan women that are using their skills in basket weaving to create a sustainable income for their families.  There are neat videos on the website- one of which shows the process of making the baskets.  And, of course, you can order the products online, too.  I'm super excited about my new pieces and I think this partnership that Macy's has with some of the Rwandan women is awesome!

I went on their website and was disappointed to find they wouldn't ship to Canada:( I had my hopes set on some of the pretty bracelets. Oh well, I suppose the good thing is we'll be able to buy them in Rwanda when we get there!
