Father's Day Weekend

Caitlin, Me, Gary, Claudia, and Erica

On Father's Day I flew to Tulsa to spend time with my family, which is a rare and special occasion since we're all spread out.  My parents lives in Bangkok and only come to the states in the Summer and sometimes for Christmas.  I have the most wonderful family and every time we're together I laugh more than the law allows- everyone is so stinkin' funny and they know how to run inside jokes into the ground!

On the adoption front we're waiting for our I-171H form.  We really have no idea how long this will take, but we're working on preparing for it's arrival sooner than later so that we're ready to send off our dossier as soon as it arrives!  We are getting all our documents notarized this week and then we'll have to send everything off to our adoption friends, Marc and Kayan, who will help get everything "certified" in Austin.

In the meantime, I'm thinking constantly about our baby!  I'm thinking, praying, dreaming, and talking about our baby all the time!  I think we've now landed a girl and boy name, although it could totally change before baby arrives.  Having a name just makes it all the more real for me and as I wait in anticipation I can't help but want to buy things.  It's difficult when you don't know the sex or age, but I've managed to come up with a few things.   Recently, I've bought:
  • Child-size, felt, slim line coat hangers
  • A diaper bag (from RueLaLa.com, our favorite online discount store!)
  • Three small hand-held battery operated fans (bought at Wal-mart after looking at 6 other stores) for Rwanda trip
  • Children's books
  • Plastic expandable file folder to carry documents in Rwanda
And, although I told myself I wouldn't start on the nursery until after we finished the paper-work process, I've started gathering ideas for the nursery.

Our new diaper bag

We got great news the other day from the Rwanda AWAA yahoo group:
1) Nyanja, who is our Power of Attorney, confirmed the hiring of one additional staff person at the Ministry to help process dossiers- This is fabulous news!  I think I heard somewhere that the Minister currently has a large stack of 40 + dossiers waiting to be reviewed on her desk and processing them is only about 3% of her job description.  And
2) Nyanja also confirmed that the dossiers are in a numerical order and in a few weeks everyone will know what number their dossier is in the stack.  From this we might have a better time frame of how long we'll be waiting.  Right now they are telling us 7-9 months from the time we turn in our dossier (which we're estimating to turn in mid to late July), so we're looking at Spring or Summer.

Thanks for the update! Do you know if your USCIS will process any faster since you already had your finger prints done? We go in July 8th for ours and I just want this dossier thing done already :)

What a beautiful family picture! I know how special those times are when you can all be together. Just think, next year, you'll have a baby in that Father's Day photo.

Praying for your journey!
